Easily identified as a social media and social networking service company, Facebook is reputed the social network with the highest number of users globally by Statista. Facebook was founded on February 4th, 2004 in Cambridge Massachusetts by five individuals namely Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin. Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes.

Messenger which started as “Facebook Chat” in April 2008 was later developed by the company to produce the iOS and Android app in March 2011. Three years later, a Windows version of the app was released in March 2014. An optimized version for iPad was also released four months later. The website interface was also introduced in April 2015. Also, to build a separate version with a reduced feature set, the Facebook Messenger Lite was introduced.
